January 02 through January 28, 2017 – TOPESCU: FROM SACRIFICE TO HOPE
VERNISSAGE: Wednesday, January 01, 2017, 7pm
The artist will be present.
Mihai Topescu graduated in 1981 from the Academy of Fine Arts “I. Andreescu” in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. He exhibited his work among others in Germany, Japan, Italy, Belgium and Denmark. Topescu lauched his project SACRIFICE in 2013, as an exploration in two visual formats, representing two referential media strategies seemingly different yet connected with each other. On one hand the video project SacrifICE – water, SacrifACE- earth, SacriFIRE – fire and on the other hand the sculpture series COCOON. His approach is in tune with the present concept of existing in time and space.
The history of hope is a long as our history on this planet, yet at the same time related to sacrifice as well. Sacrifice is a loos or something you give up, usually for the sake of a better cause. Hope is what pushed us out of Olduvay George (Africa) and a zillion years later hope pushes us towards the future, to create and to always reinvent ourselves.
