In 2013 an extensive exhibition was dedicated in the Monastery Klosterneuburg, to the visions of young students and graduates from the Arts Academies of Iasi (Romania) and Chisinau (Republic of Moldova). A selection of paintings from that exhibition can be currently seen in the Pygmalion Theater.
Inspired by the untampered nature of Romania’s oldest nature reserve in the Retezat Mountains, these works were created within the scope of the International Symposium of Arts that has been established there. This year the initiative of Valentin – Norbert Tarus celebrates its 10th anniversary.
During the years a veritable colony of artists has developed with a modest mountain cabin, the „Cabana Cascada“, as their headquarters. In the surroundings the artists find their inspiration and subjects of debate regarding their aesthetics and style: themes are forests, waterfalls and streams, barren rocks and flower meadows. That’s how the respective exhibited works have come to life, shaped by the synergy of landscape and the dynamic artistic as well as human exchange.
In 2014 the third edition of the International Bienniale for Applied Arts Chisinau has taken place with support of the FIVE PLUS Art Gallery. Works like the first prize gobelin made by Ludmila Sevchenko or the exceptional tapestry created by the nominee Traian Tecuci are examples of how the tradition of handcraft, especially works made of wool, has been showing potential for exciting and innovative ideas.
